Alliance Healthcare Foundation Programs from Healthier Communities
Mission Statement

As San Diego County's only local nonprofit, independent healthcare foundation, Alliance Healthcare Foundation (AHF) provides a public voice for the critical healthcare needs of our communities. Access to Healthcare is one of our three funding areas; the others are Mental Health and Community Health.

San Diego County's most critical public health issue is the growing number of individuals who receive inadequate healthcare. For that reason, Access to Healthcare is AHF's leading funding area. Access to Healthcare grants to local organizations support a wide range of programs and services. Priority is given to program and financing strategies that can produce discernable outcomes.

Recent grants have funded:

  • the partial salary of a health outreach worker who enrolls school- age children in the Chula Vista School District in the Healthy Families/MediCal insurance program
  • a program to prevent harm to patients in skilled nursing facilities, by advocating for patients' rights, monitoring facilities and addressing alleged violations
  • breast and cervical cancer screenings, education and referrals to treatment for Latina women in the South Bay
  • a nutrition program for mothers of preschool children
  • services that address unmet physical and mental health care needs of abused and neglected children in long-term foster care
