Rosemarie Johnson, M.D.
Secretary of the Alliance Healthcare Foundation Board
Dr. Rosemarie Marshall Johnson has been a practicing anesthesiologist in San Diego and prominent community advocate for patients and physicians.She has taught at multiple hospitals and universities, including Georgetown University, Walter Reed Army Hospital, Bethesda Naval Hospital, and the University of California, San Diego. She was appointed by both President Clinton and President Bush to The U.S.- Mexico Border Health Commission. She is the Secretary of the Alliance Healthcare Foundation Board.
Johnson has served in numerous professional organizations including her appointment as President of the California Society of Anesthesiologists, and President of the San Diego County Medical Society. Dr. Johnson is a graduate of Mount Holyoke College and Georgetown University, School of Medicine, where she also completed her postgraduate training in Anesthesiology.
Donald Jones
Vice President Business Development, Qualcomm Inc.
Donald Jones serves as vice president of business development for health & life sciences at Qualcomm. He is responsible for Qualcomm’s enablement of wireless technologies in the health and life sciences markets, a recognized leader in the field. In 2005, he founded the Wireless Life Sciences Alliance, a 501c(6) trade organization that works with both the wireless and life science industries to enable new business models, new businesses and clinical process improvements in all sectors of the life sciences industry, including consumer health, fitness, healthcare services, healthcare IT, pharmaceutical and medical devices.
He is on the boards of the Alliance Healthcare Foundation (
www.alliancehf.org) and the American Telemedicine Association (
www.atmeda.org). Jones was a founding board member of the West Wireless Health Institute (
www.westwirelesshealth.org), with Eric Topol, MD and Gary and Mary West, the world first and foremost Institute focused on the clinical efficacy and economic efficiencies of wireless technologies in healthcare. In 2010, the San Diego Transcript named Jones one of ‘San Diego’s Top Influential’s’.
Jones holds a bachelors’ degree in biology and bio-engineering from the University of California, San Diego, a Juris Doctor from the University of San Diego and an MBA from the University of California, Irvine. Jones holds multiple patents in the use of cell phones in incentive reward programs.

Robert McCray

Rob McCray is the president and CEO of the Wireless-Life Sciences Alliance, Chairman of Alliance Healthcare Foundation, Special Advisor to Triple Tree LLC, Member of Midmark Corporation Board of Directors, Member of Board of Directors of CONNECT, and an active advisor to several companies. Rob has served as President, COO and an early investor in Digital On-Demand, Inc., a retail services technology company that operates under the brand name RedDotNet in chains including Barnes and Noble, Circuit City, Best Buy, Blockbuster and Fred Meyer. Previously, he served as Chairman, President and CEO of HealthCap, Inc., Managing Director of Caremark Physician Resources, and he co-founded OnCall Medicine, Inc., a medical house calls company. Prior to his business career, he was a Managing Partner in his law firm and a partner in a predecessor and transactional legal and consulting service to the healthcare industry for over 20 years.
Some past community associations include serving as Chairman, Sacramento City Toxic Substances Commission; Chairman, Sacramento County Environmental Commission; member of Board of Directors, American Lung Association of Sacramento-Emigrant Trails, and President, Environmental Council of Sacramento. He is a graduate of the University of California, Davis School of Law and the University of California, San Diego.
Elizabeth McPhail
CEO, Kuity Corp.
Treasurer of the Alliance Healthcare Foundation Board
Elizabeth McPhail is the CEO of Kuity Corp., an enterprise Business Intelligence BI 2.0 software (SAAS) and advanced analytics company serving the financial services, government, and green/sustainability industry markets. McPhail has an extensive background in healthcare, including top executive roles with firms in health systems, healthcare technology service organizations (TSO), medical device, community health, managed health care (PPO), medical group purchasing (GPO), healthcare publishing and pharmaceutical distribution industries.
In addition to serving as Treasurer of the Alliance Healthcare Foundation Board, she is also a member of 211 San Diego’s Board of Directors and the Supportive Housing Committee for the San Diego County Commission on Children, Youth and Families.
Kathlyn Mead
Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, The California Endowment
Kathlyn Mead was named senior vice president and COO for The California Endowment in May 2007, and is tasked with overseeing day-to-day operations and management. Prior to joining the Endowment, Mead served as CEO of the Council of Community Clinics in San Diego. Mead was also Vice President of the CalPERS sector of Blue Shield of California, and CEO for Sharp Health Plan for nearly 10 years.
Mead was awarded the Organizational Leadership Award by San Diego’s KGTV-10 News for her outstanding commitment to community service. She is also the recipient of the Twin Award from the YWCA of San Diego. In addition to serving on the Board of Trustees for the Alliance Healthcare Foundation, Mead also serves as a board member of the Insure the Uninsured Project (ITUP).
Atul Patel
Senior Vice President, PriceSmart
Patel is the senior vice president and corporate treasurer at PriceSmart, a warehouse club operator. He has over 22 years of International Treasury Management Experience. Prior to joining PriceSmart, he served as Assistant Treasurer for a private investment management firm in Bahrain and Geneva.
Patel spent seven years with Imperial Chemical Industries in London, managing foreign exchange and interest rate risk, day-to-day treasury operations, as well as managing a portfolio of $2 billion in surplus funds. Patel is a graduate of the University of Wales, United Kingdom.
Joe Ramsdell, M.D.
Professor, Division Head General Internal Medicine/Geriatrics; Professor of Pulmonary, UCSD Medical Center
Joe W. Ramsdell, M.D., is a professor and the division head of General Internal Medicine at the University of California, San Diego. Dr. Ramsdell was a member of the Alliance Board at its inception. He is a practicing general internist at the University of California, San Diego, and pulmonologist with a research interest in chronic disease management, with a specific interest in airways diseases such as asthma and COPD. Dr. Ramsdell is Director of the UCSD Clinical Trials Center and Airway Research Center. This research center is funded by federal, foundation and industry grants. Dr. Ramsdell is also a working member of several important national networks including the Asthma Clinical Research Center, sponsored by the American Lung Association, and the UCSD COPDGene™ Study, a multi-center trial with the overall goal of conducting a comprehensive genome-wide association (GWA) study to identify genes influencing COPD.
In addition to his personal practice, Dr. Ramsdell has an ongoing interest in general internal medicine, chronic disease management, and healthcare delivery. The Division of General Internal Medicine at UCSD includes over 120 general internists at the University of California, San Diego, and San Diego Veterans Administration Health Services system. Under the direction of Dr. Ramsdell, these UCSD faculty members are involved in cutting-edge health services research, as well as, personal care and most importantly, teaching.
Sean Sheppard
Founder and CEO, Shep-Ty Inc.
Sean Sheppard is the founder and CEO of Shep-Ty Incorporated and President of the Embrace program. Embrace mobilizes college students to assist less fortunate members of society by pairing each student’s area of study with specific community needs through community service and service learning. Embrace’s signature programs teach low income, middle school children the importance of healthy lifestyle habits and cultural acceptances through education, sports and exercise, and serving the homeless population.
Sheppard previously served as the Director of Strength and Conditioning at The Ohio State University, Urban Marketing Consultant for the San Diego Padres, Director of Health Promotions and Lifestyle Change for Comprehensive Health Center and Program Consultant for the California Black Health Network. Sean has an undergraduate degree in psychology from Georgetown University and a master’s degree in physical education from San Diego State University where he currently serves as an Ambassador for Higher Education.
Jeffrey Willmann
President and CEO, Opprime Investments
Jeffrey Willmann is the president and CEO of Opprime Investments, a privately-held consulting and investment company, working in the healthcare, financial services and commercial real estate industries. His work for his clients includes growth and acquisition projects and identification of partnership opportunities. Prior to working with Opprime Investments, Willmann served as CFO of Sharp Health Plan.
Willmann’s previous positions include, Director of Finance and Business Development with LightBridge Hospice in San Diego, CFO of Family Choice in Buffalo, New York, and Officer and Director of Trinity3 Corporation in Newport Beach, California. Willmann was the Chairman and Founder of Trinity Hospice (now Odyssey Healthcare, ODSY) and also served there as Director. Willmann is a graduate of Concordia College in Arizona and Arizona State University.

Alex Kane, Ph.D.
Professor of Finance and Economics, University of California, San Diego
Alex Kane is an expert in the fields of finance, portfolio management and capital asset pricing. He has engaged in extensive research in many areas and is currently studying the volatility of security prices and improved methods of portfolio management. He is the author of many academic and practitioner journal articles and a two-time winner of the Graham Dodd award for his work in the Financial Analyst Journal (1984, 1996). Kane is also co-author of the widely used textbook, Investments, which has been translated into Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Portuguese, Bulgarian, and Hungarian.
Kane is a member of the American Economic Association and the American Finance Association. He has held academic appointments at University of California, Los Angeles, Harvard University's Graduate School of Business and was the Yamaichi Visiting Professor of Finance at the University of Tokyo.

Stan Lewis
Non-Board Program Committee Member of Alliance Healthcare Foundation
Stan Lewis, is a governmental relations and healthcare consultant, and currently serves as a member of the foundation’s program committee. He is the former Director of HIV-AIDS Services for the one of San Diego’s largest non-profit organizations.
Mr. Lewis served as Chief of Staff to former San Diego City Council member, Valerie Stallings, and as consultant to the City of San Diego Public Facility and Recreation Committee (now PS&NS).
Mr. Lewis completed his BA in Accounting and Economics from Howard University in Washington DC and received his MBA in International Business from Bernard Baruch College, City University of New York.
A long time community activist, Mr. Lewis is also a former appointee of the Governor of California to the California State Board of Chiropractic Examiners.
A San Diego resident since 1979, Mr. Lewis is the father of two grown daughters and lives in the Encanto neighborhood with his spouse.
